Nursing Incharge

The Nursing Incharge plays a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the psychiatric ward within the hospital. They are responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities, ensuring compliance with regulations and protocols, and providing leadership and support to the ward staff. The Nursing Incharge collaborates closely with other healthcare professionals to maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients undergoing psychiatric treatment.

Location: MPR Doraha-Ludhiana

Responsibilities

  • Provide ongoing training and professional development opportunities for ward staff, including orientation for new hires and ongoing education on best practices in psychiatric care.
  • To identify the training needs for ward staff and arrange training classes as required.
  • To investigate incidents, accidents, concerns, near-misses, non-conformities and complaints pertaining to the wards and team, ensuring that statements are collected within agreed deadlines.
  • To maintain check on inventory being checked by ward staff& auditing the same on periodically with acknowledgment.
  • To ensure that all provisions of nursing care is provided to the patient & is documented on a timely basis and accurately reflect the patient experience.
  • To supervise daily patient billing as per actual consumption (ward specific).
  • To coordinate for meeting with reporting head and shift in-charges once a week.
  • To coordinate for monthly meeting of all nursing staff (in one day) with reporting head.
  • To ensure timed updation / creation of staff duty rosters
  • To work closely with the consultants for the achievement of effective patient management ensuring that individual consultant care protocols are follow.
  • To ensure a high standard of infection control and prevention of all avoidable healthcare associated infection in the ward.
  • To ensure that all policies, procedures, guidelines and work instructions that relate to the wards are regularly reviewed and updated, as required.
  • To participate in the setting of standards and agree clinical, audit topics with the hospital manager, ensuring that the identified audits take place with action implemented.
  • To discuss and promote innovations that will improve patient care to maintain an appropriate standard of confidentiality.
  • To conduct training classes with training evaluations of ward staff and document the same.
  • To allocate staff in all departments and also assign patients only after discussion with consultant psychiatrist, psychologists, for observation ratio.
  • To maintain the record of each nursing staff training program.
  • Assessment of the workload of individuals and groups.
  • Arranging for the flow of materials.
  • Facilitating the flow of communication with reporting head and ward staff.
  • Raising the level of motivation, Establishment of control, Development of confidence, Emphasis on achievement.
  • Responsible for any types of kitchen complaints.
  • Coordinate with Admission Coordinator for admission process and take care in the absence of Admission Coordinator.
  • Taking disciplinary action as suggested by hospital management for ward staff where and when required.
  • Monitor compliance with state and federal regulations, as well as accreditation standards relevant to psychiatric care.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance the quality and effectiveness of patient care services.
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment within the psychiatric ward, adhering to safety protocols and procedures.
  • Implement measures to prevent incidents of violence, self-harm, or elopement, ensuring the safety of both patients and staff.
  • Conduct regular rounds to assess the environment and address any safety hazards or concerns.
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care in accordance with established protocols, policies, and standards of practice.
